Making People Change

John Maxwell has said that there are three times that a person can change: 1. When they hurt enough they have to, 2. When they learn enough that they want to, 3. When they receive enough they are able to. 1

Other than that they are going to operate on auto-pilot.

What this means is that people can change, but they themselves have to want to.

You, in the short term, aren't going to do it for them.

It stands to reason then, that if a person's behavior is regulated by their own choices, when a person says or does something that hurts others that they don't have a problem with you, they have a problem with their own heart.

Why does this matter to business?

Business is of the people, by the people, and for the people. Try creating a successful business without a successful culture. Try to build a successful culture without addressing human behavior. Try addressing human behaviors without addressing the human heart.
